I'm going to be getting a MacBook Air what modle I don't know yet.
I know its not ment for gaming but I want to know how well it can run them like Call of Duty 4.
I'm not asking for everything jacked up, just if it can run them at all.
I really don't play games on full setting, I just want it so I can get a good framerate.
Hi Schnizzle Fits, First off.
I'm can you play videogames on macbook air that we're referring to the 2nd generation MacBook Air with the Nvidia 9400m GPU when we're doing our MacBook Air shopping.
With that being said, Call of Duty 4 will in fact run on the machine.
I'm unsure what you consider "good" FPS.
From my experience, on all the lowest settings for this game I was lucky to get much more than 20-24 FPS.
When things got busy and chaotic I was in the 10-14 FPS range which is borderline unplayable for a game like that In my opinion.
How important is the gaming aspect of your MacBook Air ownership?
The machine is extremely capable, but it's not designed or sold as a mobile gaming platform.
A game like CoD 4 is very cutting edge in terms of click at this page and I think you'll find it to be playable but questionable in terms of how well or enjoyable.
Also, there are other threads on gaming here, so do a search of the Can you play videogames on macbook air forum -- and do a general google search as well, you will find that pretty much across the board, none of the major current Mac games run well on the MBA -- also, keep in mind, that unless you have a game where the entire game installs to your harddrive and you don't need a disc to play, you're okay -- if the game requires a disc to play, you have to haul your superdrive along -- oh, and it won't work on remote disc, you have to run with the physical disc connected to the MBA.
I tried WOW on the first Gen MBA, it was completely unplayable.
On the 2nd Gen, it runs only at the lowest can you download gameboy games on 3ds settings, and even then, it is remains virtually unplayable -- I've removed it it also eats up too many GB casino day cruise augusta ga the MBA.
Games like Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 don't run at all -- the MBA just isn't capable of running it -- Do a search -- there are lots of threads on this.
I 'd have thought the FPS might be a bit low even on low graphics settings to make the gaming experience enjoyable, which is most of the point after all.
That written users here have reported decent performance for some games.

Thanks I am not depending on the MBA to be a gaming platform, I just wanted to know because I have a few games from 2005 and under.
I wanted to know how well it would play a more recent game like CoD4 as comparion if I sould even bother to install some of my older games.
After all, my blackbook which is slower, plays COD perfectly.

The other "difficult" deciding factor is price.
I realize the "intrigue" of the MBA's size and weight is its biggest selling feature, it's what sold me twice!
However, if the prospects of more processor intensive applications might be in your future then the MBP is an easy decision as an upgrade.
If gaming were a factor in my laptop usage then, yes, MB Pro base model would win.
I must admit while owning the Air for the past week, it was the most beautiful thing I ever laid eyes on or hands.
The thing is in reality, it cannot do video - rather games or HD content very well as its not designed for that.
So if you need to play games go with the pro you wont be disappointed.
If you ONLY do office work then the Air is for you.
Good luck to you Air owners its a beautiful peice of hardware.

Yes, you can run Steam on your Macbook. However, macOS will not work with Windows-only games on Steam. So if you want Windows-only games on your Mac, you will need to purchase Windows ($100-$200 depending on the edition of Windows) and install it on your Mac; preferably through Bootcamp.

Can You Play Games on a Mac? Macs are made of the same components as any other PC. They’re just an Intel x86 computer in a fancier case with a different operating system. This means there’s no real hardware barrier to gaming on a Mac. It’s not like a PC has some magic video game component that your Mac lacks.

Unfortunately for you, not a single answer yet is correct.
Yes, MacBook Pro is horrible for gaming.
It is a muscle car, in very much a can you play videogames on macbook air as a Ferrari.
They have one of the most amazing CPUs for a laptop, and processor power is definitely not can you play videogames on macbook air problem.
But the MacBook Pro lacks a major component of gaming actually, the most important component for gaming : MacBook Pros have horrible GPUs.
Most desktop GPUs have a power consumption of at least 500 Watt.
This would mean that your MacBook would run out of power extremely fast, if not connected to a power socket.
This would mean that your laptop would have to be bulkier, make a lot more noise, and waste even more energy in a cooling system, in order to prevent overheating.
However, you have an option.
There are quite a few companies out there who create external GPU cases eGPUswhich can house a desktop GPU.
Then, you can plug it on your MacBook and play games flawlessly.
So, out of the box, MacBook Pro is not good for gaming.
You can play many casual steam games, you can even play many MOBAs, FPS games and Hearthstone, but graphic intensive games such as Witcher 3 are out of the question.
The reason for this is solely the laptop GPU, however there are options, like eGPU cases.

This is where things can get a bit complicated. Obviously, you need a fast CPU to play 3D games, preferably a dual-core Intel Core i5 or Core i7 running at 2.0GHz or more. But even a fast CPU will.

I'm assuming that we're referring to the 2nd generation MacBook Air with the Nvidia 9400m GPU when we're doing our MacBook Air shopping.
A game like CoD 4 is very cutting edge in terms of 3D and I think you'll find it to be playable but questionable in terms of how can you play videogames on macbook air or enjoyable.
Also, there are other threads on gaming here, so do a search of the MBA forum -- and do a general google search as well, you will find that pretty much across the board, none of the major current Mac games run well on the MBA -- also, keep in mind, that unless you have a game where the entire game installs to your harddrive and you don't need a disc to play, you're okay -- if the game requires a disc to play, you have to haul your superdrive along -- oh, and it won't work on remote disc, you have to run with the physical disc connected to the MBA.
I tried WOW on the first Gen MBA, it was completely unplayable.
On the 2nd Gen, it runs only at the lowest video settings, and even then, it is remains virtually unplayable -- I've removed it it also eats up too many GB on the MBA.

I wanted to know how well it would play a more recent game can you play videogames on macbook air CoD4 as comparion if I sould even bother to install some of my older games.
After all, my blackbook which is slower, plays COD perfectly.
The MB Air has GeForce 9400M, that is integrated graphics solution, so I'd be really surprised if anyone would think of it as a gaming laptop.
Similarly with the latest batch of higher end Intel Atom Netbooks?
The other "difficult" deciding factor is price.
I realize the "intrigue" of the MBA's size and weight is its biggest selling feature, it's what sold me twice!
However, if the casino day cruise augusta ga of more processor intensive applications might be in your future then the MBP is an easy decision as an upgrade.
If gaming were a factor in can you play videogames on macbook air laptop usage then, yes, MB Pro base model would win.
I must admit while owning the Air for the past week, it was the most beautiful thing I ever laid eyes on or hands.
The thing is in reality, it cannot do video click at this page rather games or HD content very well as its not designed for that.
So if you need to play games go with the pro you wont be disappointed.
If you ONLY do office work then the Air is for you.
Good luck to you Air owners its a beautiful peice of hardware.
Thanks for this presentations.

Just a background about myself: I owned the early 2008 15" MacBook Pro, and late 2011 15" MacBook Pro. I am a former engineer and now a finance manager. I play videogames, used for programming (C++, Matlab, R, SQlL, etc.) and did normal productivity tasks. I also record music with Fender/Gibson guitars. The changes from the 2011 15" MacBook Pro.

Is there any other website where I can check game compatibility for my MacBook Pro? You've already hit on one source: the App Store. Another route is to use Steam. You can filter games to purchase based on OS and within in each there is a general description of what you need to play the game in terms of hardware.
